The Time I Searched for the Best Pizza in London
London has an outstanding food scene. Want a gourmet burger? Sure. A Korean corndog? Got’em. But when this Chicago girl wants some pizza, the pickings are thin - and I’m not talking about the crust.

“Authentic Detroit-style Pizza Baked in Blue Steel Pans”
A full blown Chicagoan, I never knew Detroit Pizza was a thing until I moved to London. Now, I’m a fan. The focaccia crust is fluffy without being doughy or dry. The cheese goes right up to the edges and gets good and crispy. I recommend the pepperoni with a drizzle of spicy honey - the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Also, if you like crispy edges, ask for a corner.
Fatto a Mano, Boxpark Shoreditch.
With six locations across Hove, Brighton, and London, Fatto a Mano serves authentic and affordable Neapolitan pizza, made with fresh ingredients.
Soft, pillowy dough is made daily and proved for 24 hours. The pizza is cooked in a pizzaioli set at a high temp and for only 90 seconds. Despite the short cooking time, the crust has the right amount of char on it, the cheese is melted to perfection and the fresh ingredients come together to make it a delicious pizza.
Pizza Pilgrim, various locations
Call me crazy, but we really like Pizza Pilgrim. With locations all over London including Selfridges and fab ‘pizza at home’ kits, Pizza Pilgrim is a solid option from good pizza.
Serving a slow proved Neapolitan pizza crust, Pizza Pilgrim sources as many ingredients from Italy as possible, ensuring you get as close to an authentic Neapolitan experience as possible.
Homemade, Chicago style, deep dish pizza.
My absolute favourite pizza is the one my husband makes for us on Friday’s. Its taken him 6 years to find a crust recipe that is similar to our favourite deep dish back home - Lou Malnati’s. While it isn’t a perfect match, its close enough to bring all those hometown memories flooding back.
Built backwards with cheese on the bottom and sauce on top, I like to top mine with pepperoni, green peppers, red onion, and a sprinkle of parmigiana. Its baked in my mother’s old cast iron skillet, making the meal full of happy memories.
