The time we had a date night at home.

I can’t remember the last date night the hubs and I had, but I can remember the one we planned to have. It was set for 27 March at a new restaurant with a trendy menu. We were excited about going out and really looking forward to dinner and then, COVID-19 struck.

The world screeched to a halt and high streets began shuttering the doors and rolling up the sidewalks. Our plans were cancelled and for a good while it didn’t matter. We were content in our bubble of safety and companionship. It felt like spring break came early and we fell into a nice routine. But as the weeks passed the monotony of it all started to press down on us and my husband and I struggled to find quality time together that felt special.

Our fist attempt at a date night at home was a flop. We fed the kids early and had our meal an hour after they finished. We were interrupted, what felt like, every 5 minutes with random questions. I suspect they were just being nosy, but it was maddening. Our date night was deemed a failure and I went back to the drawing board, enter Chateau and their Lockdown Café.

During the Covid-19 lock down, I had to work from home and avoid visiting friends and family. There was nothing better than receiving a package full of surprises. A couple of times, I also made a cake or something nice to treat or cheer up a friend. I also got more time to cook healthy food as I was saving time on transport. I figured out how to take advantage of technology in order to turn that great feeling into a company. At Chateau, our mission became to deliver a surprising collection of items to each customer’s home, every single week.

Chateau sent a text message letting me know when I could expect the arrival of my grazing box so I sent the hubs to get a bottle of wine at the local shop - it was essential.

This grazing box was packaged perfectly for a walk to the park. We could easily grab a bottle of wine and glasses to enjoy a picnic in the park. However, since we have a perfectly suitable garden, we decided to have our picnic at home.

I chose to transfer all the tasty goodness from the box to a tray so I could really set the scene. I laid out a blanket, added some pillows and a few citronella candles to help with the bugs. When I brought the try outside the hubs was impressed and…

When I brought the try outside the hubs was impressed and our date night finally felt special. Until my son let the dog out.

Wish you were here,

xoxo

Note:

There wasn’t a single thing in the grazing box we didn’t enjoy. We used any leftovers for snacking the next day.

Full disclosure, Chateau gifted me their grazing box, affordably priced at £35, in the hopes it would save my date night. It really did.
